The next software update will allow users to call back, edit texts

Have you ever sent a text message and immediately wished you could take it back? Well soon you can with Apples iOS16 software update.

The tech giant announced the latest text update at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday. The new feature will allow users to recall a text up to 15 minutes after sending or retrieve recently deleted messages up to 30 days after deleting them, according to a company press release.

Users can even edit text and mark a message as unread so they can come back to it later.

“iOS 16 is a big release with updates that will change the way you use iPhone,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering. “We redesigned the look and feel of the lock screen with exciting new features that make it more personal and useful, introduced iCloud Shared Photo Library for families, streamlined communication with new features in Messages and Mail, and leveraged improved intelligence with updates to Live Text and visual search.”

The update will also include features allowing users to customize their lock screens; notifications have been redesigned to display from the bottom of the phone screen and a new toggle in the camera app will automatically allow users to send images to the iCloud Shared Photo Library.

The Apple Pay service that is part of the iPhone’s digital wallet adds a new financing feature that will allow consumers to spread the cost of any purchase made through Apple Pay over four installments made over a six-week period at no additional cost. Similar funding is already offered through digital services such as Affirm.

Many of the new features in Apple’s Macs and iPads are designed to make it easier to sync with iPhone, for example to make video calls. Other tools will allow more apps to run side by side to multitask on the same screen.

Helping people switch between Apple devices is a big reason the company started making Macs running on the same kind of chips that power the iPhone and iPad in late 2020.

Apple is now putting the next generation of its Mac chip in its two most popular laptops, the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, which the company says will hit stores sometime next month. The MacBook Air will sell for $1,200 and the MacBook Pro for $1,300.

Users will even be allowed to tap and hold a subject on a photo and remove the subject from the image and place it in a post along with many other updates.

A developer preview of iOS 16 will be available for members of the Apple Developer Program starting Monday, and a public beta preview will be available for iOS users next month. For those wishing to sign up for the public beta, Click here.

The full iOS 16 software update will be available for free to everyone starting this fall for iPhone 8 and above, according to Apple.
