Tesla began rolling out its latest OTA (over-the-air) software update version 2022.4.5.5 to its global non-FSD beta fleet yesterday (March 2, 2022). This new update includes the recently launched Car Colorizer feature, regenerative braking improvements for Autopilot, Dashcam clip saving and nearby Superchargers (release notes below).
New charging port flap animation
Another exciting new addition to software update 2022.4.5.5 is the change to the animation of the charging port flap on the center display of the Model S and Model X design refresh.
Tesla recently changed the charge port flap opening function of the 2022 Model S and Model X design refresh (AWD & Plaid). Now the charging port opens upwards to the left and the flap hinge is also located on the left side. Previously, the charging port had a smaller flap opening to the right (the triangle at the end of the backlights).
This new wider opening and dual-hinged design can also accommodate the larger CCS2 charging port, which is mostly the standard in Europe and Asia. This new charging port flap opening feature gives the Model S/X an overall unified design for different ports and connectors.
A Tesla YouTuber from Taiwan spotted the new charging port cover design on the Model S Plaid at a local Tesla store where the car was on display.
Release Notes 2022.4.5.5
Cabin camera analysis
Help Tesla improve the intelligence of features that rely on the cabin camera by sharing your vehicle’s analytics. When enabled, cabin camera data will be shared with Tesla if the vehicle experiences a safety-critical event such as a collision, or if the cabin camera functionality requires diagnostics. This data includes short video clips from the cabin camera to help us further develop future safety features and software enhancements such as collision avoidance updates.
As usual, you can adjust your data sharing preferences by tapping Controls > Software > Data Sharing > Allow cabin camera analysis.

Tesla Model 3 was the first car in the automaker’s line of vehicles to feature a camera installed inside the cabin facing the occupants and located above the rear view mirror. But that camera sat dormant for years before Tesla finally asked owners to allow it to be used for security reasons in 2020 in software update version 2020.24.6.
Now, Tesla is asking for owners’ consent to send the cabin camera scans back to the Tesla Mothership. The reason is the same this time too, “further development of security features”.
car colorizer
Customize the way your car looks on the touchscreen and mobile app with Car Colorizer. Change the color of your car’s exterior by tapping Controls > Software > Colorizer icon, or using Colorizer in the ToyBox.

Tesla released a short demo video (below) of the Car Colorizer feature within weeks.
Prior to this update, there was a single default car color in driving visualizations and the Tesla mobile app. This color matched the actual color of the vehicle it was purchased in. You can now customize its color on the center display driving visuals and in the mobile app with this update.
Regenerative braking on autopilot
Autopilot improvements
Autopilot will now use more regenerative braking at low speeds for greater efficiency and an improved driving experience, especially in traffic jams. Increased use of regenerative braking reduces brake pedal noise and smoother stops.
