TASCAM Upgrades DA-6400 with Software Update V3.0

TASCAM introduces the V3.0 update for the DA-6400 Series 64-Channel Digital Multitrack Recorder / Player. As a 64-track recorder using an internal SSD developed by TASCAM and a hot-swappable drive caddy, the DA-6400 is the ideal choice for live recording, event capture, as a backup solution for a for use with DAWs, while being the ideal multi-channel playback choice for theme parks, theaters, and a variety of facilities. New update V3.0 improve multi-channel audio playback, provide more intuitive interface to achieve maximum performance, add display of ABS Time mode, smooth switching to list entry edit screen playback via an external keyboard, and more.

Software update V3.0 adds nine new functions that improve the overall usability of multi-playback audio, including shorter production time of content production, and a more intuitive interface to avoid tweaks and accidental operation. For quick view and reference, adding contrast support for the display time counter improves the visibility of take names on the Home screen. Likewise, the playback settings status of Auto Prep and Cinema Playback functions can now be displayed on the home screen, providing instant verification of the current setting. Another important update is the addition of an ABS time display.

For more intuitive operation, holding down the Stop button and pressing the Rewind button makes it easy to jump to the first take. For instant access to playlist edit mode, it is now possible to press the F5 key on an external keyboard, which smoothly switches to the list entry edit screen reading (Adjust). Equally noteworthy, the ability to toggle between number of entries / time counter and display / time mode on the edit screen (Adjust) of the playlist entry is now available. A cue point adjustment lock function has been added to prevent unwanted cue points during production and, if not required, pop-up messages during cue point adjustment and adjustment lock can be disabled. In addition, the cue point display name matches the current time on the Edit Playlist Entry (Adjust) screen. As a result, verification can be viewed from either menu.

The DA-6400 supports simultaneous recording / playback of 64 channels at 48 kHz / 24 bit or 32 channels at 96 kHz / 24 bit Hi-Res audio. Note that the DA-6400’s Cascade feature facilitates the use of two DA-6400 units, allowing playback and recording of up to 128 channels simultaneously. To ensure the best performance, the DA-6400 records to a 2.5 inch 240 GB SSD developed by TASCAM which is pre-installed in the TASCAM AK-CC25 storage media, which can be hot swapped for easy delivery to clients. This caddy is also equipped with a USB 3.0 port for fast data transfer to DAW systems.

With its two I / O slots, the DA-6400 features a growing list of I / O boards to enable maximum performance in a wide range of applications. These include two options MADI (IF-MA64 / EX and IF-MA64 / BN), Dante (IF-DA64) and AES / EBU (IF-AE16) for multi-channel use with almost all pro audio equipment using the latest digital I / O networks via coaxial, optical or CAT-5. This versatility makes the DA-6400 the ideal backup recording system for synchronized capture with Pro Tools systems.

Version 3 builds on previous updates to version 2. Updates V2 and V2.20 included a Theater Play feature. This allows markers to be added for the start and end points on each take, allowing a marked playback range of multiple takes to be triggered, in order. In addition to conventional read operations, external serial and parallel commands can be used to send read triggers. Another notable addition to the V2 was the Playlist feature. This allows you to assign takes to a list in your preferred order, change the playing order, and non-destructively define the playing ranges for each audio input, without affecting the audio files.

In addition to the aforementioned upgrades, the TASCAM DA-6400 Control remote control app can be used with Apple iPad. In addition, the DA-6400 now records in Broadcast WAV format, which includes the timecode information in the data file.
