Samsung releases first Galaxy S22 software update

Samsung has barely unveiled the Galaxy S22 series, and the first update to the lineup has already started rolling out. The OTA brings several optimizations and improvements, but the main change in the new version is the inclusion of the March 2022 Android security patches.

The first update for the Galaxy S22 is available in Europe and is for the variant powered by Exynos 2200 (model number SM-S90xB) of the smartphone. The version overrides the factory installed firmware build number (S90xBXXU1AVA7) for S90xBXXU1AVBF. However, there is no change in the bootloader version, so downgrading is still possible.

Since Samsung and Google have yet to release the Android Security Bulletin for March 2022, there is no easy way to find out the underlying security fixes for this release. According to some users, the release fixes some of the display quirks present in the stock firmware. However, as noted by our own Adam Conway, the performance issues are still present even after installing this update.

So far, the update has gone live in several European regions. We expect Samsung to expand the rollout to the Snapdragon variant soon. As we’ve seen with previous rollouts, the new security update is also expected to make its way to older flagships like the Galaxy S21 series and foldables in the coming weeks.

Samsung Galaxy S22 is powered by premium specs and the 3700mAh battery supports 25W wired charging.

The Galaxy S22 Plus has a larger 45,000mAh battery and can charge faster at 45W.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra has an even larger 5,000mAh battery and can also charge up to 45W.

If you’re one of the lucky few who’ve already gotten your hands on the Galaxy S22, keep an eye out for the update. You can check if the new version is available on your phone by opening the Settings the app, then open the app Software update section down the page. If you don’t want to wait in the queue, download the latest version from the Samsung update server and install it manually on your phone.
