Apple releases new software update for AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max

Apple released a new firmware update for the AirPods line up. Apple AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max are receiving firmware version 4E71 which is said to further improve the performance of the devices. AirPods Pro‌, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max ran firmware 4C165 which was released in December last year, while AirPods 3‌ ran firmware version 4B66.
With the new firmware version, Apple does not offer any notes or information about the changes that come with it. Although there is no standard way to update firmware on AirPods, it is usually deployed as an OTA. The device must be connected to the iPhone to install the update.
Here’s how you can check if your AirPods device has received the update
  1. Connect your AirPods/AirPods Max headphones to Apple iPhone.
  2. Go to the settings app on your iPhone.
  3. Here, tap General, then About.
  4. Now tap on AirPods and look at the “Firmware Version” number.

If the version is 4E71, your AirPods device is updated to the latest firmware. Alternatively, you can try putting the AirPods in the case and connecting it to a power source. This should force the update on your AirPods.
Meanwhile, the Cupertino-based company is reportedly working on a successor to the AirPods Pro. According to numerous reports, the second generation AirPods Pro could be launched in the second half of 2022. According to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the AirPods Pro 2 will come with a “significantly improved” chip. According to a previous report from Bloomberg, the AirPods Pro 2 will include on-board health sensors for the first time ever, and they might not have stems at all, made possible thanks to a drastic chassis redesign.
